Three Guitars : Richard Shearing
Selly Oak and Five Bells Sounded for three guitars by Richard Shearing
Two pieces for guitar trio or guitar orchestra by Richard Shearing that will suit players of around grade 3 to 4 standard looking for something original and rhythmically interesting to play.
Selly Oak is in a minor key and is reminiscent of renaissance lute pieces. Its themes get passed around and there is plenty to keep everyone interested. Five Bells Sounded is in 5/4 time and contains funky cross rhythms in a pop-style harmony. It also makes a perfect companion piece for any ensemble who is also learning Lalo Schifrin’s Mission: Impossible theme.
