Two Guitars : Couperin arranged by Gary Spolding
Le Tic-Toc-Choc (and other cross pieces) by Couperin arr. Gary Spolding
for two guitars
An interesting set of pieces by Couperin, the master of French baroque music for keyboard, arranged for two guitars by Gary Spolding.
Le Tic-Toc-Choc, ou Les Maillotins, named after the sound of clockwork and the characters modelled on fourteenth century French maillet-carrying tax rioters who strike bells in a belfry(!) is an unusual and exciting piece for guitar duet. Individually it makes superb concert item, even an encore, but can also be combined with Les Bagatélles and Le Dodo, ou L'amour au Berceau to form a substantial three movement fast-slow-fast concert item.
The Menuets croisés are inventive, concise and a delight.
