Solo Guitar : Evangelos Boudounis

Spring Songs by Evangelos Boudounis

for solo guitar

Spring Songs by Evangelos Boudounis consists of three pieces in the form of a suite based on two melodies written by Nikos Antypas and one by Mikis Theodorakis. The titles are Dithesio, Stahi and Fedra. The work is dedicated to Eleftheria Kotzia who edited of this edition and has also recorded the pieces.

“A set of three pieces in a very accessible style requiring an upper grades technique. They are fun and idiomatic and if they sometimes stray close to being corny, perhaps that goes with the territory. All three pieces share a similar episodic tendency, which may come from their origin as cadenzas in vocal settings of the songs. Tempo and meter change repeatedly and a fairly determined rhythmical drive would be required to keep them hanging together. Given such drive I am sure they would produce a very good effect. The last piece features some percussion on the instrument and an alternative ending should the player feel they want to share their singing as well as their playing.” Chris Dumigan, CLASSICAL GUITAR MAGAZINE.

“Basées sur des thèmes de Nikos Antypas et de Mikis Theodorakis, les trois pièces du recueil montrent un langage musical original, fait de rythmes inspirés de la musique grecque traditionnelle, avec une alternance de passages lents et libres et de sections rapides rythmées par des effets de percussion et de nombreux changements de mesures. Une musique originale par sa mélodie et par sa structure, qui malgré sa difficulté technique devrait intéresser de nombreux guitaristes.” F.N. GUITARE CLASSIQUE MAGAZINE
